Product Questions

What makes Halo Uniforms’ products bullet-resistant?

Our products use NIJ IIIA-rated bullet-resistant technology, matching military and law enforcement standards, to provide proven protection.

How do these soft armor backpack plates protect my child?

Our soft armor backpack plates are engineered to help reduce the risk of injuries from certain firearm threats. Tested against NIJ Level IIIA standards, they are designed to stop the majority of handgun rounds, including 9mm and .44 Magnum. While no product can guarantee complete protection in every scenario, our plates add a layer of defense to help safeguard children in an emergency.

What does NIJ Level IIIA mean?

NIJ Level IIIA is a ballistic performance standard set by the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). It indicates that the product has been tested to stop common handgun threats, including .357 SIG and .44 Magnum rounds. This is one of the highest levels of soft body armor protection available.

Are these plates actually “bulletproof”?

No armor is truly “bulletproof.” The correct term is “bullet-resistant.” NIJ IIIA-rated soft armor offers a strong level of resistance against most handgun threats but is not designed to withstand rifle rounds or other higher-velocity projectiles.

How should the plate be positioned inside the backpack?

For optimal coverage, place the plate in the laptop sleeve or the compartment closest to the back panel of the backpack. Position it so that it spans the torso area when worn, ensuring maximum coverage of vital areas in the event of an emergency. The "WEAR FACE" should be worn facing the body.

Are these plates legal to own and use in every state?

Generally, soft armor plates are legal for law-abiding citizens to own and use in most U.S. states. However, some states or regions may have special regulations. We advise checking your local laws or consulting with legal counsel if you have concerns. Halo Uniforms complies with all applicable laws and will not ship where prohibited.

Does owning a backpack plate affect my ability to travel or pass through metal detectors?

These are product are TSA compliant. Most soft armor products can pass through standard baggage checkpoints, but security measures vary by venue (airports, stadiums, government buildings, etc.). Remember that all ballistic items may raise questions at security checkpoints, so plan extra time and be prepared to explain the item’s purpose.

How do I clean and maintain the soft armor plate?

Cleaning: Wipe the surface gently with a damp cloth. Do not submerge in water, use harsh chemicals, or machine-wash.

Storage: Keep the plate in a dry, cool area. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or high heat.

Inspection: Periodically inspect for any visible damage, such as tears or deformities. If damage is present, discontinue use and contact us for further guidance.

How long does a soft armor plate last?

Our soft armor plates are warrantied for five years.  We recommend replacing them at the end of that time frame or if the plate becomes damaged. As you children go, you are likely to need to purchase larger size plates to maximize protection.

How discreet are the plates?

Our soft armor plates are designed to have minimal visible profile. Once placed inside a backpack, there’s typically no outward indication of ballistic protection. Our top priority is blending safety with normal school life, so we keep the plate’s footprint and branding as subtle as possible.

Do schools allow students to carry bullet-resistant backpack plates?

Policies vary by school. In general, backpack plates are often treated similarly to other personal safety devices (e.g., laptop cases, phone protectors). We recommend checking with your child’s school administration to confirm there are no specific prohibitions.
